McClellan: I believed Bush

Former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan says he believed in President Bush and his reasons for going to war in Iraq at the time. But he said he came to realize that the war was sold with propaganda. McClellan said administration officials didn't deliberately lie, but they became wrapped up in trying to shape the story to their advantage and ignored intelligence that didn't fit the picture. The White House has responded to McClellan's book, calling the disclosures sad and puzzling.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi says she's prepared to step in to end the Democratic presidential race. Pelosi made the comment in an interview with her hometown newspaper, the San Francisco Chronicle. Pelosi added that Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama can't take their fight for the Democratic presidential nomination to the convention in August. She says it must be over by then, and she's ready to end the race by the end of next month.

The state of New York will recognize gay marriages. In a memo, New York's governor David Paterson has reportedly told state agencies to accept same-sex marriages performed in states and countries where they are legal. The memo also said failing to acknowledge such marriages would violate New York's human rights law. Earlier this month, California struck down a ban on gay marriage in that state. Massachusetts legalized same-sex marriages in 2004.

Senator Barack Obama is reportedly considering a trip to Iraq this summer. That's after Senator John McCain strongly criticized the Illinois Senator for not visiting the country in more than two years. McCain also accused Obama of turning down his suggestion that the two should make a joint trip to the country. Obama responded, saying he wouldn't join the Arizona Senator because he doesn't want to be involved in a political stunt.
