
Universal Studios is cleaning up from a fire that damaged several sets and the television video archive. Large parts of the "King Kong" exhibit and the "Back to the Future" set went up in flames. The New York and New England streetscapes are also extensively burned. An ABC rep tells E! News that the Wisteria Lane set from the network's "Desperate Housewives" series is still standing. About 400 firefighters tackled the blaze, which started early Sunday morning.
Despite the fire, the show went on for the MTV Movie Awards last night at Universal's Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles. Actor Will Smith was at the event with his son Jayden. Smith took home the award for best male performance for "I Am Legend." Actress Ellen Page was also on hand...she won best female performance for her role in "Juno." Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron and Jennifer Hudson were all in attendance.
Meanwhile, romantic comedy beat out action at U.S. box offices this weekend. "Sex and the City: The Movie" starring Kristin Davis, Cynthia Nixon, Kim Cattrall and Sarah Jessica Parker sits at No. 1, after taking in more than $55.7 million since it hit theaters on Friday. That's the most ever made by an R-rated comedy on an opening weekend. "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull" starring Harrison Ford dropped to No. 2 this weekend with $46 million in ticket sales. And "The Strangers" with Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman came in at No. 3 with $20.7 million. That's all according to Box Office Mojo.
Tatum O'Neal is set to be arraigned today after she was reportedly seen purchasing crack cocaine on the Lower East Side of Manhattan on Sunday night. O'Neal was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance. That's according to a CNN report. The actress won an Oscar for her role in "Paper Moon" when she was 10 years old and she has gone public with her substance abuse problems in the past, documenting her path to sobriety in her memoir, "A Paper Life."
Holly Hunter was honored this weekend with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles. Hunter was joined by her husband, actor Ed Harris and tennis great, Billie Jean King. Director Steven Spielberg and his wife, Kate Capshaw were also there to celebrate with the actress. Hunter's star is number 2,362 on the famous sidewalk.
